The 178th Durham Regatta will take place on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th June 2011 on the racecourse stretch of the River Wear in Durham City.  The following information may be useful for visitors and spectators:

Getting Here

Those travelling by car should leave the A1(M) at junction 62 and follow the A690 towards Durham City.  The Regatta is signposted from here and all other main roads.  Those using satelitte navigation should proceed towards Green Lane, Durham, DH1 3JU.  Durham lies on the East Coast Main Line with direct rail connections to London, Birmingham, Manchester, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Scotland.  On leaving the Railway Station, pedestrians should head down the bank into the City.  Follow signs for the Cathedral and Castle and the Regatta is signposted from North Road.  Visitors arriving by bus should follow signs from Durham Bus Station.

Car Parking

Unfortunately, only a limited amount of Car Parking is available.  Visitors on the Saturday are encouraged to use Durham Park and Ride facilities and alight at either the Three Tuns Hotel, College of St. Hild and St. Bede or Durham City Bus Station and enter the Regatta Enclosure via Baths Bridge.  Spaces are available beside the University Pavillion and Durham City Cricket Club, however these will fill up extremely quickly.

Regatta Enclosure

There are four entrance points to the Regatta Enclosure, located at Baths Bridge, St. Cuthbert's Society Boat House, University Pavillion and beside the Boat Club.  An admission fee of £2.50 per adult and £1.00 per child will apply between 8.00am and 5.00pm.  Concessions, including Disabled Persons and Under 5's are free of charge.  The Regatta Enclosure will remain open between 8.00am and 11.30pm on Saturday 12th June and between 8.00am and 7.00pm on Sunday 13th June.

Racing

Racing will commence around 8.30am on both days, with a race every two minutes until around 6.30pm.  The racing timetable will be published on this web site week commencing Monday 7th June and is available in the Regatta Programme, copies of which may be purchased from the entrance gates at a cost of £2.50 per programme.

Other Attractions

Other attractions at the Regatta include a Vintage Car Rally, Musical Performances, Trade Stands and various displays. 

Safety

In the interests of safety, please note that barbeques and bicycles are strictly prohibited within the enclosure.  Dogs must be kept on a lead at all times and young children should be supervised.  Lost children should be taken to Regatta Control, located adjacent to the Start Platform.  The First Aid tent is located adjacent to the Bandstand.
